Reach-back and after-burn


The diagram below shows how periods of reach-back can overlap with periods of after-burn, meaning we don't get a break from our anxiety.

Notice how each trigger results in a 'wave' of anxiety - it rises up, reaches a peak and then reduces again. To help feel better, we need to:

Reduce the reach-back time, so our anxiety about things that haven't happened yet is reduced, reduce the after-burn time, so we're able to feel calmer after the event, and notice the triggers so we can help prevent our anxieties overlapping.
